McMullen's Japanese Antiques

Our company is owned by John McMullen, an authority in the Japanese arts. McMullen frequently assists the U.S. Customs Department in recognizing and appraising Japanese antiques and Japanese art. He also teaches Japanese art appreciation classes. His collection began in 1947, after purchasing his first piece of Japanese art while he was enlisted in the Army. He has continued to build his collection for nearly 60 years and he still maintains a vast personal collection of Japanese art. McMullen often finds it difficult to decide whether to sell a piece or keep it in his collection. He believes that nobody really ever owns art, but simply serves as a custodian tasked with sharing the art with others.

As a lifelong collector of Japanese art, McMullen is passionate about his work and enthusiastic when it comes to helping those in the LA area create authentic Japanese environments. McMullen is familiar with the art of Japan and will work closely with you to reach your ultimate goal when it comes to creating and designing a collection or space influenced by these cherished art pieces.
